Benefits of night driving outweigh the risks
Most really cheap car insurance holders from Britain believe that young motorists should be allowed to drive at night, according to Moneysupermarket.com.
After proposals were made for Graduate Driver Licensing (GDL), the price comparison website carried out a survey to ascertain whether people supported an evening driving ban. More than half of the individuals questioned thought that youngsters shouldn't be given a motoring curfew.
A significant proportion of car insurance holders believe that newly qualified motorists would find the experience of night driving to be advantageous. 30% said that the government would struggle to keep a tabs on the driving activity of teenagers.
Of those questioned 11% are of the belief that a night driving ban would significantly reduce the number of yearly road deaths. Thirty percent claim that youngsters should have to spend a good length of time driving during the daytime before they are allowed to cruise the roads at night.
Steve Sweeney, head of car insurance at Moneysupermarket.com, said, "While it may be good news for the industry that the issues facing younger drivers are firmly on the agenda, our research shows Brits are questioning whether a GDL would really work.
"Enforcing this system will be incredibly hard to do in practice and I don't believe it would stop young motorists getting behind the wheel to obey the rule."
A recent piece of research by the Association of British Insurers revealed that most British residents think that learners require a minimum driver training period of one year. Youngsters who take intensive driving courses will stand a much better chance of obtaining really cheap car insurance.
