UK crime hotspots highlighted by online car insurance firm

Driving offences have been put in the spotlight by an online car insurance company, which found that Bristol, Manchester and Leeds are all hotspots for certain types of crime.

uSwitch.com, the utility switching site which branched into motor insurance in early 2007, revealed that Bristol drivers are most likely to have a conviction for drink driving and speeding. A massive 27% of motorists from the Somerset and South Gloucestershire city have points on their licence from going over the speed limit.

The online car insurance company also showed that drivers from Manchester are the most likely to take to the roads without motor insurance, whilst Leeds is the home to the greatest number of car thefts and resulting insurance claims.

A spokesperson for uSwitch.com said: "The biggest 'claim shame' in all this is that innocent drivers may be paying more for their car insurance to subsidise the criminal behaviour or dangerous driving habits of others."
