Consumers reminded to check small print of online car insurance policies
Gocompare.com is highlighting the importance of checking the small print before purchasing a policy, especially to those buying online car insurance.
The company, which itself provides online comparison services for motor insurance amongst other things, is reminding customers to read the details of policies before they buy in order to avoid disappointment should they need to claim.
A spokesperson for Gocompare.com said: "It's certainly important to read the small print when purchasing goods, especially for something like insurance where an oversight can leave you in a very difficult and stressful situation should things go wrong."
However, she also points out that online car insurance companies also have a responsibility to be up front about the details of their policies.
She said: "More and more people are buying insurance online - in 2006 17 per cent of motor insurance was purchased via the internet - and it's essential for people to feel confident that they know what they're covered for."
According to the company, the most common mistake consumers make is to assume that they will get a courtesy car should their vehicle break down.
