Post Office provides telephone and online car insurance policies to thousands

According to Post Office Financial Services, more than 500,000 people now have bought its home, travel, van and car insurance online and over the phone since its inception.

The Post Office teamed up with the Bank of Ireland in 2004 to create Post Office Financial Services, which would offer a whole range of insurance policies, from van cover to cheap car insurance. It also provides other financial services alongside its insurance, such as lending and saving services.

A spokesperson for the Post Office Financial Services said: "Our aim at launch was to become a major player in the financial services industry and now, reaching half a million customers with our insurance products alone, we are definitely on target to achieve this.

"We believe in offering customer fairer, easier and better insurance."

He went on to reveal that many of its customers were getting face to face, telephone and online car insurance quotes that were up to a third cheaper than elsewhere.
