Online car insurance comparison site shows consumers switching provider more often
MoneyExpert.com has revealed that 14% of motorists switched their motor insurance provider in 2006.
The company, which offers customers the ability to look at online car insurance and other financial products from a number of sources, is using its new Switching Index to show that consumers are becoming less apathetic to saving money.
It believes that nearly half of the UK's adult population has switched the provider of their utilities, broadband, bank accounts and car insurance. Its statistics reveal that consumers rejected 39 million products and services in 2006 in the belief that they would get a better deal for their money elsewhere.
The most popular service to switch was that of gas and electricity, although this was very closely followed by motor insurance providers. This may be thanks in part to online car insurance comparison services such as MoneyExpert.com and Moneysupermaket.com, as well as a rising number of savvy consumers interested in saving money.
Sean Gardner, chief executive of MoneyExpert.com, commented: "No provider is safe from the axe if they don't have a competitive product or good customer service. Customers aren't shirking from moving on if they're not happy."
Corrine Aldous, of online car insurance company duck2water Car Insurance Services, added: "We believe that the growth of web-based services and products is the key to this trend because the internet makes searching and comparing deals such a quick and easy task."
