Award-winning Renaults

Many people who drive Renaults find that they would love to get the chance to give their motor a personal award. A busy mum might name her Renault Espace as her "most reliable car", whilst an always-on-the-go young driver might give the Clio a special award for its cheap car insurance group and excellent fuel economy.

The third-gen Renault Clio certainly impressed the panel of judges at the European Car of the Year. Renault was commended for pretty much every aspect of the Clio's design, with the judges picking out quality, safety, space and comfort as four of the most praiseworthy aspects of this little car.

As can be seen from this glowing account, Renault has done very well in developing the Clio. According to www.caroftheyear.org, "Several [judges] described the winner of Car of the Year 2006 award as the new benchmark for its category, although at nearly 4m in length, it has almost out-grown the small car class of the first and second generation Clios."

Eco-product for Sustainable Development 2005
However, it was the turn of the Renault Modus to impress at the 2005 Prix Entreprises & Environnement in France. The popular family car took second place in the Eco-products for Sustainable Development class thanks to the high percentage of recycled plastic contained within its dashboard.

Remarkably, recycled materials make up half the weight of the dashboard in the Modus. This is thanks to Renault's commitment to three points: using recycled products, controlling what goes into the new products, and ensuring that those new products can be recycled once more when their life comes to an end.

WhatCar? Safety Award 2005
There is no single model winner of the WhatCar? Safety Award. Instead, it is presented to the manufacturer or organisation which makes the greatest contribution to road safety. For the sixth time in seven years, 2005 saw Renault take home this prestigious prize from the WhatCar? magazine awards.

A spokesperson for Renault said: "Safety is a prime concern not just for Renault but for each and every one of us. It is one of our company's core values, and as such, Renault is anything but a crash test dummy when it comes to designing and making safe cars. Each year we invest over £70m in safety R&D, with a team of 600 engineers and technicians who are working to safeguard the future lives of car passengers."
